PickleCoach ("we," "us," or "the app") is a personal pickleball coaching app that provides tailored drills, AI-powered coaching and video analysis, match logging, DUPR skill-rating estimation, progress tracking, and social features. This Privacy Policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, how it is protected, and the choices you have.

By creating an account and using PickleCoach, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

Email address — used to create and authenticate your account.
Password — collected and managed securely by our hosting platform; we never store or see your plain-text password.
Display name — the name shown to other players.

Profile information

You may optionally provide the following, which is visible on your public player profile:

Nickname, avatar (emoji or uploaded image)
City, state/province, and country
Your DUPR skill rating (self-reported or estimated by the app)
Phone number (private; visible only to you)

Match data

When you log a match, we store:

Opponent name, game type (singles/doubles), and match date
Scores (yours and your opponent's)
Optional DUPR ratings for you and your opponent
Self-rated skill scores for serve, return, dink, volley, smash, third-shot drop, and footwork
Optional video uploaded for AI technique analysis

Practice session data

When you log a practice session, we store:

Drill name, category, difficulty, and duration
Your self-rating for the session and any notes you write
The date of the session

Social data

Follows — records of players you follow (by name and user ID).
Notifications — in-app notifications such as when someone follows you.

Feedback data

If you choose to send feedback or a bug report, we receive the message content along with your name and email address (submitted via your device's default email client).

Data we do NOT collect

We do not track your GPS location. Location fields are manually entered by you.
We do not access your contacts, camera roll, or SMS messages.
We do not collect browsing history or track you across other apps or websites.
We do not sell your data to anyone.

2. How We Use Your Information

Account management — to create and authenticate your account and keep you signed in.
DUPR estimation — your match results and opponent ratings are used to estimate your skill rating using an ELO-inspired formula.
Skill analysis & progress tracking — your self-rated shot scores and practice history are used to track progress, calculate streaks, and recommend drills.
AI coaching — when you ask the AI coach a question, your question is sent to a language model to generate a response.
AI video analysis — when you upload a match video, the video is sent to an AI model to analyze your technique and shot selection.
Leaderboards & player search — your public profile (name, nickname, avatar, DUPR, location, and win/loss record) appears on leaderboards and in player search results visible to other users.
Social features — to enable following other players and receiving notifications.
App improvement — feedback and bug reports help us fix issues and improve the app.

3. How We Store and Protect Your Data

Your data is stored securely on the Base44 cloud platform, which provides the app's backend infrastructure (database, authentication, and file storage).

Authentication — passwords are hashed and managed by the platform's authentication system; we never store plain-text passwords.
Row-level security — your matches, practice sessions, follows, and notifications are private to you. Other users cannot see your individual match scores, practice notes, or session history.
Public profile data — your PlayerProfile (name, nickname, avatar, DUPR, location, and aggregate win/loss record) is intentionally public so you can appear on leaderboards and in search results. You can edit or remove this information at any time.
Video storage — videos you upload for analysis are stored using the platform's file storage and are accessible only in the context of your analysis.
Data encryption — the platform transmits data over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections.

4. Third-Party Services

PickleCoach relies on the following third-party services to provide its features:

Base44 — our hosting and backend platform that stores all app data and provides authentication, database, and file storage.
Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, Google authenticates your identity. We receive your name and email from Google to create or access your account. We do not receive your Google password.
AI/LLM providers — when you use the AI coach or upload a video for analysis, your question or video is processed by a third-party AI model to generate coaching feedback.

These providers process data on our behalf as subprocessors and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments. We share only the minimum data needed to provide the requested feature.

5. Data Sharing

Public profile — your PlayerProfile information is visible to other PickleCoach users via leaderboards and player search.
Follow notifications — when you follow another player, they receive a notification containing your display name.
Service providers — we share data with the third-party services listed above solely to operate the app's features.
Legal compliance — we may disclose information if required by law or in response to a valid legal request.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

Access — you can view your matches, practice sessions, follows, and profile information within the app at any time.
Edit — you can update your display name, nickname, avatar, location, DUPR rating, and phone number from the Profile page.
Delete individual records — you can delete individual matches, practice sessions, and follows from within the app.
Delete your account — you can delete your account from the Profile page. This removes your PlayerProfile and signs you out. Match and practice data associated with your account may be retained by the platform.
Withdraw social connections — you can unfollow any player at any time.
Opt out of video analysis — video upload is entirely optional. You can use all other features without uploading any video.

To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app controls described above. For additional requests, contact us at the email listed in Section 10.

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete individual records (matches, sessions, follows), they are removed from your view. When you delete your account, your PlayerProfile is removed and you are signed out. Residual data may be retained by the hosting platform in accordance with its backup and retention policies.

8. Children's Privacy

PickleCoach is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
